Dance Company…..Intensive Training

Our Philosophy

Moves and Motions’ dance team is competitive, but winning is not the priority. The main goal is to create an environment that will build dancers’ technique as well as their confidence and self-esteem.  We work together as a team — staff, students and parents — to shape conscientious, honorable, well-rounded performers. We respect fellow team members, as well as performers and choreographers from competing schools. We measure our success not by the medals and trophies we are awarded, but rather the character that is developed along the journey.

Requirements

Students who have appropriate prior training, at least two years in one or more disciplines of dance, are welcome to call for an evaluation. If the student qualifies he or she will be placed, with our director’s approval, in a class with other students who have achieved the same level of technical proficiency, execution and performance ability. Dancers are not placed by the number of years they have trained, but rather by what they have accomplished in that period of time. Not all dancers grow at the same pace.

Students are required to take multiple classes each week with a strong focus on ballet. Commitment, attendance, readiness and hard work are all a part of a dancer’s responsibility. Failure to comply will result in dismissal from the team. Dance conventions, master classes and workshops, both in dance and theater, are part of the company experience. Many of these classes are held at the studio while others are at outside facilities. These are all fun and rewarding programs that contribute to the growth of the dancer.

Our Students

Moves & Motions intensive company dancers have gone on to various performing arts high schools such as The Frank Sinatra School of Performing Arts, Professional Performing Arts School, Nassau Boces Long Island High School for the Arts, and Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts (aka The Fame School).

Moves & Motions alumni are presently dancing in professional dance companies, Broadway show touring companies and Off Broadway performances. Our alumni have worked in television and radio, as dance adjudicators, choreographers and professional dance educators.
Our students have performed at Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Six Flags Great Adventure, Madison Square Garden, Cultural Arts Festivals, Broadway Cares Equity Fights Aids, The ING NYC Marathon-Verrazano Bridge, for the CEO of Pepsi Cola, Off Broadway performances such as Sweet Charity, Grease, Fiddler on the Roof, Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and more.

In 2012, Moves & Motions student Amanda Krische was named a Presidential Scholar in the Arts — the country’s highest honor for high school seniors.  Amanda is now a college graduate with a BFA in dance.

What have we achieved?

The list goes on and on competitively — our students and staff have received many awards. We have been recognized for our outstanding choreography and technical talents over and over again. However, we are most proud of our philanthropic achievements. Through dance, many of our students have raised money for the Ronald McDonald House, Equity Cares, and several other charitable organizations. Our dancers have brought such joy to senior citizen centers and children’s hospitals all over New York. Company dancers perform at various events throughout the year, including local street fairs, dance concerts, competitions and large corporate events. In memory of the untimely passing of two of our dear moms, we started Dance For The Cure, raising thousands of dollars for Cancer Care, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Make-A-Wish Foundation. Moves and Motions continue to support our local charities.

Our students and staff are always striving to reach higher goals. It is important that while offering our dancers an excellent dance education we instill positive values. We share our love of dance and our compassion for others through the art of dance.
